THE CHALLENGE

The environmental impact of fossil fuel has been a hot topic for years. The Nordic mining company Boliden felt the need to reduce its dependence on fossil fuel and adapt to more sustainable mining options.

THE SOLUTION

A one-of-a-kind mining trolley line powered by electricity (in arctic climate) was installed by Omexom and Eitech. For the first test line, four mining trucks were converted to electric in an effort to decrease their environmental footprints.

THE GOOD EFFECT

Implementing a mining route, based on electricity, lowered Boliden’s greenhouse gas emission by an astounding 80% on the test track. In addition, there was a noticeable increase in air quality and operating speed.
